I started recycling when I was in elementary school, saving all our empty bottles and cans, and then asking my mom to drive me to our town dump, where they accepted them if you sorted the glass by color. To this day, I try to reuse and recycle everything I possibly can. Throwing out yogurt containers — or that NYC staple: plastic food delivery containers — pains me. So I was thrilled to discover the #5 recycling bin at Whole Foods. Now I save all my #5 plastics (look for the number inside the recycling triangle — #1 and #2 are generally recyclable through city collection programs) in the same reusable bags I take to the market, and drop them off each time I shop. One more small green step towards a lower-impact life. Take it with me?
