The Best Shaving Creams: Proraso
Like most men, I mostly dread shaving. Fortunately, with razors like the Gillette Fusion, Gillette Fusion ProGlide, Schick Quattro Titanium, and Schick Hydro I don't nick myself like my dad used to, forcing him to walk around with toilet paper dotted all over his face. And the Anew Rejuvenate Flash Facial Concentrate I wrote about last week cools and soothes my skin afterward. But if your shaving is still missing the relaxing ritual aspects of a professional barber shave, a change in shave cream might tip the balance from dread to pleasant. Proraso Shave Cream and Foam from Italy recalls that classic barbershop experience in both scent and feel I like both the cream in a tube, for a dense, moisturizing lather, and the Sensitive Skin Foam for an airier shave. Buy either at Drugstore.com; the tube "Sapone de Barbe" with menthol and eucalyptus is also available at amazon.com, and is private-label marketed in the US as CO Bigelo Premium Shave Cream with Menthol and Eucalyptus for a dollar less. I'm also a fan of Avene Men's Shaving Foam, which my friend Ron turned me on to, but unless you can pick it up in a French pharmacy, it's a little pricey to buy in the US.
