SunChips 100% Compostable Bag
I've always really liked SunChips (so much so, that there are some people on Fire Island who call me "Billy SunChips"), and I've been composting since I made my own compost heap in the back yard as a kid. So I was excited to try my first SunChips in their new 100% Compostable bag. Made of plant-based (not petroleum) materials, it's good for the earth to begin with, but even better when you compost it. One surprise was how noisy the bag is… there's no sneaking a few chips out of this one without alerting everyone else in the room. But big kudos to Frito Lay — not just for devoting the resources to deploy the bag, but for using so much space on the bag and their web site to promote composting. The EPA estimates that 26% of all landfill is compostable materials. A home composter or compost pile is an amazing way to recycle organic nutrients back into the earth. If you haven't ever done it, check out the Composting 101 section on the SunChips website. Find them at local grocery stores everywhere, or order in bulk from Amazon.com.
