I've had stand and hand mixers for years, sometimes one, sometimes both.  It's time for me to replace my current stand mixer, a discontinued KitchenTools model, and I'm thinking that maybe, given the lack of space in my Manhattan apartment, I could make do with a hand mixer, particularly since 90% of my mixing is just whipping cream or beating egg whites.  Consumer Reports' top rated mixers are both from KitchenAid.  They come in 5, 7 and 9 speed models, with the 9-Speed
