Today is my 11-year anniversary as an Avon Representative.  I've written a lot about various Avon products on BKB, but I've never written about the Avon opportunity.  I first signed up as a representative just to get a discount on my own skin care purchases.  I can distinctly remember saying that if it required convincing other people to sign up, I wasn't interested.  It didn't, and still doesn't, but my perspective on Leadeship, Avon's Multi-Level Marketing opportunity changed after traveling on a cruise I won in 1996 for my sales performance.  It wasn't the cruise itself, but the (mostly) women I met on it that inspired me.  Since 1886, Avon has given (mostly) women a path to financial independence — before they could vote.  In more than 100 countries, Avon is one of the only businesses that someone with no education, training or experience can start — for just $10.  It's truly remarkable — as are the success stories of countless Representatives who have built businesses small and large that have changed their lives.  Equally impressive is the company's comittment as expressed by its founder "to meet fully the obligations of corporate citizenship by contributing to the
well-being of society and the environment in which it functions." Most companies discovered corporate responsibility shortly before the turn of the last century, not the century before it!  It's truly heartening in an era where so many companies are are known more for greed and malfeasance.
