The Truth about Zico Coconut Water

The Truth about Zico Coconut Water

Zico I've written about coconut water before: it's one of my favorite drinks, and not because  (like Marcio and so many other delicious things) it
comes from Brazil — although that helps.  Zico, now 20% owned by Coca-Cola, has become hyper-visible in its new, snazzy, easily recycled PET plastic bottle… gaining refrigerator shelf space and sponsoring events.  But, unlike Vita Coco and O.N.E. and even Zico's own tetra-pack version, this Zico is from concentrate.  And while the company claims this helps reduce the environmental impact of the product packaging and shipping, it just doesn't taste the same.  The new Zico is also made from coconuts sourced world-wide, and not exclusively from Brazil, which also reduces its calorie count and increases its sodium content. Whether it's the dehydration and reconstitution process, or the fact that it's not 100% Brazilian, it just doesn't taste the same.  I'll stick to the tetra-pak versions.
